Brief Biography of Dr. Shinnan Kiang
Aug 2008 Born and raised in rural Taiwan, Shinnan Kiang's first photographs were taken with a borrowed camera during his teenage years. His passion for photography was born. Over the next few decades, however, photography took a backseat to other obligations including his medical school education at National Taiwan University, his post-graduate medical training after moving to the United States, his medical practice, and his family. In the 1990's, Shinnan was able to start devoting more and more of his free time to art. Photography classes at a community college solidified Shinnan's understanding of the basics of black-and-white as well as color photography. This class work, extensive self-study, and additional workshops have helped him hone his skills in landscape and wildlife photography. His love of travel and his fascination with nature have brought him to each of the continents, and to the farthest reaches of the earth, including the Arctic and Antarctica. The result has been an amazing collection of images published as three distinct photo books – Romance with Ice, Parade of the Penguins, Eagles and Bears, and Photo Glory. In recent years, he has presented photo slide shows to many organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has earned high praise from his audiences. In 2007, the Epoch Times International Photographic Competition honored two of his images as “Excellence Prize” and “Bronze Prize” from over 13,000 entries submitted from over 60 countries. These two images along with his other favorite photographs will be showcased in the San Francisco Bay Area Taiwanese Artists’ Exhibition in October 2008. He can be contacted at skiang@msn.com 江欣男醫師簡介 江欣男醫師出生於台灣, 在純僕美麗的鄉村長大, 當時照相器材極不普遍, 到了十多歲時, 他用借來的照相机拍下第一張相片, 首次嘗到攝影的奇妙, 也播下了他日後喜愛攝影的種子。但是, 往後的數十年, 他卻忙碌於更重要的事, 包括在台灣大學醫學院唸書, 畢業後來到美國深造訓練, 從事醫生的工作, 及照顧家庭等等, 所以, 攝影只能是他次要的休閒嗜好。 直到1990年代, 他才有較多的時間投入他的攝影藝術, 他在社區大學裏進修攝影課程, 從黑白、彩色到暗室操作, 奠下他的穩固基礎, 他也勤於自修, 參加攝影講習, 喜愛大自然的江醫師, 常與職業攝影家實地學習, 十幾年來, 他的大自然和野生動物攝影已邁進純青成熟的境界。 熱衷於大自然, 江醫師喜愛旅行, 他的足跡遍及七大洲, 包括遼遠的北極海和南極洲, 拍下無數的相片, 他的佳作發表在三本攝影集: Romance with Ice (冰之戀), Parade of the Penguins, Eagles and Bears, 及 Photo Glory (影像榮神)。 近年來, 他經常在灣區用投影机展示他的作品, 深得各界的好評。 在2007年, 他參加 Epoch Times 國際攝影大賽, 從60多個國家來超過13,000稿件中, 江醫師的兩件作品分別榮獲 Excellence 和 Bronze 獎, 這兩件和他鍾愛的影像將在 Bay Area Taiwanese Artists' Exhibition 中展出, 日期是十月十八和十九。 江醫師已從心臟內科專業退休, 與家人在灣區, 聯絡址 skiang@msn.com Sample Photos (Click picture for larger view):
